Temperature Converter
Convert temperature between Celsius, Fahrenheit and Kelvin instantly. Type a value in any scale and read off the rest, with the exact conversion formulas explained.
Temperature converter
Celsius ↔ Fahrenheit ↔ Kelvin.
°F = °C × 9/5 + 32; K = °C + 273.15. Conversions use the exact defined relationships.
The three temperature scales
Celsius (°C) is used across the UK and most of the world for weather and cooking. Fahrenheit (°F) survives in the United States and older British recipes. Kelvin (K) is the scientific scale that starts at absolute zero. They're all linked by simple formulas, so any value converts exactly into the others.
To convert Celsius to Fahrenheit: multiply by 9/5 (1.8) and add 32. So 20 °C × 1.8 + 32 = 68 °F. The other way: subtract 32, then multiply by 5/9. Water freezes at 0 °C / 32 °F and boils at 100 °C / 212 °F.
Conversion formulas
| From → To | Formula |
|---|---|
| Celsius → Fahrenheit | (°C × 9/5) + 32 |
| Fahrenheit → Celsius | (°F − 32) × 5/9 |
| Celsius → Kelvin | °C + 273.15 |
| Kelvin → Celsius | K − 273.15 |
Reference points: absolute zero = −273.15 °C = 0 K; body temperature ≈ 37 °C = 98.6 °F.
Everyday and oven temperatures
Two handy anchors: a comfortable room is about 20 °C (68 °F), and a hot summer day of 30 °C is 86 °F. For cooking, a moderate oven of 180 °C is 356 °F (gas mark 4). For full unit coverage including length, weight and volume, use our unit converter.
Frequently asked questions
How do I convert Celsius to Fahrenheit?
Multiply the Celsius value by 9/5 (or 1.8) and add 32. For example, 20 °C is (20 × 1.8) + 32 = 68 °F.
How do I convert Fahrenheit to Celsius?
Subtract 32 from the Fahrenheit value, then multiply by 5/9. For example, 98.6 °F is (98.6 − 32) × 5/9 = 37 °C, which is normal body temperature.
What is 0 Kelvin in Celsius?
0 Kelvin is absolute zero, equal to −273.15 °C. To convert Kelvin to Celsius, subtract 273.15; to go the other way, add 273.15 to the Celsius value.
At what temperature do Celsius and Fahrenheit meet?
They are equal at −40 degrees: −40 °C is exactly −40 °F. It's the only point where the two scales give the same number.
What is 180 °C in Fahrenheit?
180 °C is 356 °F, which is roughly gas mark 4 — a common moderate oven temperature for baking.
